In Vietnam, we have worked for several years with Blue Dragon, an organisation that has long worked with children in difficult life situations and provides direct assistance to victims of human trafficking. We started by supporting the strengthening of children’s rights protection in police investigations. Then we created an official circular (set of guidelines) for the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security for police and judicial forces to help protect children’s rights during criminal investigations and prevent secondary victimization (secondary injury to the victim). Any child involved in a police investigation as a victim now has a greater chance of special protection.

The Human Trafficking Act has been under review since 2021 and the current wording was inadequate, did not cover all forms of trafficking and did not provide sufficient protection to victims of trafficking. Together with Blue Dragon, we worked to make the new law more effective and better protect victims. At the same time, we supported training for police, border guards and other involved authorities who encounter this type of crime. The trainings focused on the identification and investigation of these crimes and a more sensitive approach to the victim to avoid secondary traumatisation.

In September 2024, Typhoon Yagi hit Vietnam, causing widespread flooding and landslides, particularly in the northern part of the country. Thanks to the funds raised through an open fundraising campaign, we were able to work with Blue Dragon to provide basic food and other assistance to the affected people.
